Hello all, at first, I want to thank Hjalti, Ásdís and all your colleagues for hosting a very interesting meeting in October! Because of the latest news, I'm worried about you all in Iceland and I hope you all the best. In the meeting was decided to have the next meeting in Helsinki, Finland. We discussed already the suitable date: the meeting will be held on 9th-10th October 2024. Save the date! There are some themes already that you were interested to talk about in the next meeting. The topics are: Artificial Intelligence and Braille 8-dot Braille Braille Notes Of course we can talk about some other topics also, you can send the topics you want to discuss about, or you want to have a presentation, to the address braille(a)celia.fi<mailto:braille@celia.fi>. Notes from Nordic Braille group startup meeting

Dear all, Today we held the startup meeting for the STEM working group. Please find my notes attached. I do recall from the meeting in Reykjavik that someone knew how to set up a new mailing list (like this one). I have forgotten who. Could you please reach out to me and help create a mailing list for this group? Summary of notes: This group will be valuable for containing not only technical but also pedagogical expertise and the user perspective. We see several possibilities for collaboration, e.g. * Be a reference group for e.g. the MathCAT project and a tech overview. * A mailing list where we can share ideas and questions. * Discussing if/how we should move towards a common Nordic standard for math in 8 dot braille. Everyone will take the question of how to appoint members to this group to their respective braille authority at their next meeting. This group cannot make decisions but can be consulted by the authorities to make recommendations. We will have regular meetings twice a year to share updates. Additionally the group will be called together as-needed for specific purposes, e.g. as a reference group in projects. At the meeting we decided that I will coordinate a first meeting of a working group for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Visual Unicode Braille

In the Danish report we talked about, how to write visual braille by using Unicode. I can add, that you can write Unicode Braille in Word by typing the code for the sign, mark the code and then press alt, x. Then you have the visual braille sign. You can find the code on this webpage: Braille Patterns - Unicode Character Table (jrgraphix.net)<https://jrgraphix.net/r/Unicode/2800-28FF> I have also experienced that it can correct printing errors to write in Unicode. For instance when we print 6 dot, _é_ (dot 123456) is incorrect if we do not use Unicode.
